§ 70235. Anesthesia Service Staff.

- (a) A physician shall have overall responsibility for the anesthesia service. His responsibility shall include at least the:(1) Availability of equipment, drugs and parenteral fluids necessary for administering anesthesia and for related resuscitative efforts.(2) Development of regulations concerning anesthetic safety.(3) Operation of the postanesthesia service.(b) Anesthesia care shall be provided by physicians or dentists with anesthesia privileges, nurse anesthetists, or appropriately supervised trainees in an approved educational program.(c) Anesthesia staff shall be available or on call at all times.(d) A registered nurse with training and experience in postanesthesia nursing care shall be responsible for the nursing care and nursing management in the postanesthesia recovery unit.(e) There shall be sufficient licensed nurses assigned to meet the needs of the patients.(f) Nurses assistants, where provided, shall not be assigned patient care duties unless under the direct supervision of a licensed nurse.
